MUW Alumnae Association Reaches Out To Members through Direct Mail
In an attempt to contact as many of its members as possible to bring them up to date on its current situation, the Alumnae Association has recently undertaken an extensive direct mail campaign. More than 18,000 copies of "The Mississippi University for Women Alumnae Association Update" were mailed on July 31.
"The MUW Alumnae Association is alive and well, and we want all of our members to know of our continuing commitment to actively supporting the university we all hold so dear," said MUW Alumnae Association President Susan Puckett.
"Due to the continuing affiliation dispute with President Claudia Limbert, we felt an obligation to reach out to alums with an informative print publication which clarifies the real issues. Unfortunately, the membership list used for the mailing was outdated, as the university has declined to provide the association access to our own current membership records."
Alumnae who did not receive the publication are asked to provide the association with their latest contact information in order to ensure that they are included in future efforts to reach out to the membership. The "Update" can be mailed upon request to any alum who did not receive one and would like a copy. In addition, an electronic version can be e-mailed or downloaded.
The direct mail campaign was underwritten through contributions of interested alumni who felt it was imperative that the association make its case clear to its members. "We are truly grateful to those individuals who made this extensive mailing economically feasible," Puckett said, noting that the Alumnae Association assets are also not available for use by the organization due to the ongoing conflict with the university's administration.
"Your original and historic alumnae association wants each and every member to know that you are still a part of the MUWAA. And it has never been more important for you to be actively involved."
MUW alumnae who want more information are encouraged to obtain a copy of "The Mississippi University for Women Alumnae Association Update," which details the association's official stance on Dr. Limbert's decision to disaffiliate the 118-year-old alumni organization.
